The new Museo delle Mura opens in Bergamo

On 20 September 2024, the Museo delle Storie, together with the Municipality of Bergamo and the UNESCO Secretariat, inaugurates Museo delle Mura di Bergamo, a new exhibition route dedicated to the history of the Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2017. Housed within Porta Sant’Agostino, the historic gateway to the fortress city for those arriving from Venice, the museum transforms storytelling into experience through immersive multimedia installations and physical artifacts, bringing visitors into the heart of the Walls’ construction — a stone diamond of history and beauty that remains a symbol of Bergamo today.

At the heart of the exhibit is a multimedia installation by KARMACHINA, developed in collaboration with Studio Dune, translating scientific research into a journey through time. Large projection screens echo the arches of the city gates, transforming these abstract backdrops into windows onto history: moving images animate the story of Italian wars, key figures, innovations, and the centuries-long construction, drawing on over 150 images and documents from more than 30 archives — maps, paintings, drawings and aerial footage. Emiliano Bagnato’s soundtrack, blending original music and sound design inspired by Renaissance sounds, envelops visitors in a fully immersive audio-visual experience.
