KARMACHINA’s video for “Utopie Radicali. Beyond Architecture: Florence 1966-1976” travels to New York, screening as part of “Radical Living” at R&Company Gallery from May 12 to June 18, 2019. Originally conceived for the exhibition’s opening at the Strozzina between October 2017 and January 2018, the video is a dense, visionary collage of the works and key figures behind Italian Radical Architecture, a fiercely creative movement that took shape in Florence during the 1960s and 70s.
Bringing together, for the first time in a single show, the work of Archizoom, Remo Buti, 9999, Gianni Pettena, Superstudio, UFO and Zziggurat, the exhibition sets design objects, videos, performance art and narrative in dialogue, tracing the revolutionary thinking that shaped contemporary art in Florence. Produced and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, Fondazione CR Firenze and the Observatory for Contemporary Arts, it is curated by Pino Brugellis, Gianni Pettena and Alberto Salvadori, with the collaboration of Elisabetta Trincherini.
