Opening to the public on May 18, “Lvni Experience” transforms a motorway tunnel into an immersive gateway to the ancient Roman city of Luni. Funded by SALT – Società Autostrada Ligure Toscana, the project makes Luni’s historic and archaeological heritage accessible to the many travellers driving the stretch of motorway connecting Liguria to Tuscany. The tunnel linking the A12 motorway to the Luni National Archaeological Site, designed by Sina and Studio Piarulli, has been reimagined by KARMACHINA as a fully immersive environment where large-scale projections and sound bring the city’s remains to life.
Roman artifacts and archaeological finds are animated through evocative visuals, enveloped by a soundscape from Fernweh blending original music with contemporary reinterpretations of ancient melodies. Avoiding didactic explanation, Lvni Experience unfolds the city’s story through image and music alone — tracing its foundation, splendor and decline, and evoking Dante’s “splendida civitas lunensis” with a poetic, atmospheric language that bridges past and present.
