Inaugurated today in Sibari, the new “Modulo Ippodameo” is an ambitious project presented by the Calabria Regional Secretariat of the Ministry for Culture, named in honor of Hippodamus of Miletus, the great urban planner behind the innovative layout of ancient Thurii. Signed by Corvallis Spa and KARMACHINA Srl under the scientific direction of the Archaeological Park of Sibari, the new multimedia area immerses visitors in an interactive journey through the history and archaeology of the Sibaritide region, tracing the cities of Sibari, Thurii and Copia that followed one another across the territory over the centuries.
Digital projections, motion graphics and interactive gaming narrate the area’s morphological and geopolitical evolution from the Bronze Age to 700 AD across three themed rooms: Il territorio di Sibari, with animated maps and photographs tracing centuries of territorial change; Apprendisti archeologi, where Leap Motion–controlled stations let visitors playfully engage with archaeological methods; and La città di Turii, featuring an 8-minute motion graphic short film on Hippodamus’s urban innovations. At the center of the atrium, a Leap Motion–based interactive installation invites visitors to explore 30 3D artifacts, including the famous Toro cozzante.
