“The Beloved of Isis” opens at the Domus Aurea in Rome

“The Beloved of Isis. Nero, the Domus Aurea and Egypt” opens today in the evocative spaces of the Domus Aurea, conceived and organized by the Colosseum Archaeological Park. Curated by Alfonsina Russo, Francesca Guarneri, Stefano Borghini and Massimiliana Pozzi, the exhibition explores Nero’s relationship with Egypt and the East, offering new and evocative perspectives on ancient Roman history through works on loan from the most important archaeological museums. Immersive multimedia installations by KARMACHINA dialogue with the spaces, bringing Nero, the Domus Aurea and ancient Egypt to life through archaeology, virtual reconstructions and audiovisual storytelling.

KARMACHINA’s installations animate entrances and walls throughout the richly decorated halls, layering projections, original voice readings and a large-scale video of Alexandria that bring architecture, reliefs and historical spaces vividly to life. In the octagonal hall, immersive projections recreate Egyptian sites such as Philae and Dendera, guiding visitors through an “archaeological walk” of virtual reconstructions by Altair4 Multimedia that culminates in a projection of the Philae temple relief, depicting Emperor Nero presenting gifts to the Egyptian pantheon. On view through 14 January 2024.
